Kick the weekend off with a few sets of live music at Uncle Calvin’s this Friday starting at 8 p.m. Hear classical acoustic guitar player Sam Swank make his 25th performance at the venue, offering up some rock and blues in addition to traditional fingerstyles. He’ll be joined by Willy Welch, who has opened for the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Shawn Colvin and John Gorka at some of the biggest venues in the country.
In participation with Dallas City of Learning, this Saturday the Frontiers of Flight Museum hosts Turn Up, a daylong showcase of all thing aviation. During the event, admission to the museum will be free and attendees will learn all about Love Field, a transportation hub that more than 7 million utilize every year. Kids can tour the new airport terminal, sample food from airport eateries and check out the many vehicles and planes used to make the airport operate, including the wind tunnels.
Learn to draw like the masters this Sunday at the Meadows Museum at SMU. From 1:30-3 p.m. guest artist Ian O’Brien takes participants on a tour of the galleries, exploring different techniques, before teaching a class that allows students to explore their creative skills. The event is geared toward adults and students 15 and older. Sketchpads and pencils will be provided, but you’re encouraged to bring your own. The session is free with museum admission, which is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $4 for students.
